A downloadable zine

This one-page zine was created for and initially distributed at the Open World Arcade held at the Akron Art Museum where my personal game HOUSTON was being showcased. The zine file is included if you purchase HOUSTON, but you can buy it separately on this page as well.

This article goes into much more detail on how and why the zine was created, but the short version is that this zine:

  • explains what a 'personal game' is, and why such games are valuable
  • describes what Twine is, what it can do, and how to get started with it
  • offers a casual worksheet for brainstorming personal game ideas and possible mechanics, based on common interaction modes easily designed in Twine

The zine's writing style is heavily skewed towards older children/pre-teens who may or may not have previous game dev experience, with both homeschool and classroom settings in mind. It may also offer a fun creative writing exercise and source of discussion among college-level game design students and educators. Once obtained, it may be freely copied and distributed for personal and educational use.
