Small content/quality update & pricing change

On Saturday, December 7, I experienced the delight of exhibiting HOUSTON at the Open World Arcade, hosted at the Akron Art Museum in Akron, Ohio. I wrote a whole Marketing-category post about my experience with that.

In preparation for this event, I made my first and final (for now) content update to this game:

  • Optimized the Twine to make sure that a local offline version actually worked (e.g. referencing local images instead of hosted images)
  • Optimized images so that horizontal scrolling is no longer required to see the whole picture
    • Because I had to resize the images to make that happen, I changed the sizes/locations of some interactive hotspots and modified, removed, or added others
  • Increased the font size and improved text formatting
  • Added and rewrote some of the in-game text for greater clarity and consistency

I also decided to make HOUSTON a download-only game with a PWYC (pay-what-you-can) model, set to minimum USD $1 (suggested: $3). This is partly because I also ended up making a one-page zine, "Design Your Own Personal Game," aimed at game design students of all ages (written with teens/older kids in mind), which was presented alongside HOUSTON at the Open World Arcade event. This zine is included with the HOUSTON game download, or you can purchase it individually (for minimum USD $1 or PWYC).
